Typically at 6–8 weeks, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks old.
2. What should I feed a Chihuahua puppy?
High-quality puppy-formula kibble suited for toy breeds; small, frequent meals (3–4× daily) to prevent hypoglycemia. We recommend large bags of Royal Canin, which last approx. 3 months per pup.
3. How often should Chihuahua puppies eat?
We recommend free-feeding; leave food out for them to eat anytime, since their fast metabolism and small stomachs mean frequent small meals.
4. When can I start socializing my puppy?
After the first round of vaccines, around 8–10 weeks, in controlled, safe environments.
5. How do I potty train a Chihuahua puppy?
Consistent schedule, frequent trips outside (or to a designated pad), and positive reinforcement. In winter, we recommend a grass turf patch from
Pooch Patch to make potty breaks easier.
6. Are Chihuahuas prone to being cold?
Yes; their small size means they chill easily, and you'll often see them shake or shiver in cold conditions. Sweaters and warm bedding are recommended in cooler climates.
7. How much sleep does a Chihuahua puppy need?
18–20 hours a day is normal for growing puppies.
8. When should I start basic training/commands?
As early as 8 weeks, using short, positive reinforcement sessions.
9. What health issues are common in Chihuahua puppies?
Hypoglycemia, dental crowding, and soft spots on the skull (molera) are breed-common concerns. We recommend weekly brushing, or at minimum every time you trim their nails.
10. When should my puppy go to the vet for the first time?
Within the first week of bringing them home, then per the vaccine schedule.
11. Do you ship puppies, or is it local pickup?
Local pickup only — we do not ship. Puppies are met and picked up in person in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), as well as St. Catharines, Niagara, Hamilton and surrounding areas. Buyers from outside the area are welcome, but must travel to meet their puppy in person. Meeting in person also lets you see how the pup has been raised.
12. Why does my Chihuahua shake so much?
Chihuahuas are famously expressive little shakers! They tremble when they're cold, but just as often when they're happy, excited, anxious, nervous, or startled — it's simply how such a big personality processes emotion in such a tiny body. In almost every case it's completely normal and nothing to worry about; it's part of the breed's charm. Only if the shaking comes alongside lethargy, loss of appetite, or other signs of feeling unwell should you check in with your vet to rule out hypoglycemia.
